Eendracht at Ebora

Superyacht Destination

The Louisiades is a great destination in its own right for larger yachts and motor yachts. There are a wide variety of anchorages with a choice of inhabited anchorages allowing cultural and village experiences and uninhabited destinations allowing privacy and a wilderness experience. There are many types of islands coral cay, uplifted reef and true continental islands. Anchorages, whilst protected, are often deep water and suitable for larger yachts. There are also many intimate anchorages with reef passes, small bays and lagoons which can host larger yachts with local knowledge to access them.

Security

The Louisiades has not experienced any security issues for yachts. With special arrangements for formalities, yachts may enter and/or depart PNG from Misima, thus avoiding the need to visit mainland PNG ports.

EcoSustainAbility has worked with superyachts and understands that vessels often have specific security and confidentiality requirements. The Louisiades are ideal as with little communication with the outside world by the local community “discretion” can be assured.

Voyage Planning

EcoSustainAbility can offer planning advice for yachts visiting the Louisiades and arrange events and local hospitality at key anchorages. This may range from school and clinic visits, sailau trips, canoe making,  feasts, singsings, dive sites and fishing spots. Some islands offer cultural experiences and are specifically wishing to host yachts. EcoSustainAbility can provide a list of potential sites and events tailored to the yachts interests.

Once some initial planning has been undertaken EcoSustainAbility can develop an itinerary and make arrangements with local hosts. NOTE: Such an itinerary does not have to be “date” specific and may have flexibility. The folk at Hoba Bay just need to know the yacht is coming around a date and wants to have a cultural afternoon learning how to make baggi, traditonal firelighting and mat making … they will be ready whichever day the yacht arrives!

Logistics

EcoSustainAbility has established business relationships with traders and service providers in Misima and can facilitate services for yachts when they visit Bwagoia.

Appropriate Conduct

EcoSustainAbility has facilitated yachts around the Louisiades, as part of the rally and most recently the motor yacht Eendracht. We can advise skippers on approriate behaviour for anchoring and the fees and charges which are reasonable for services. Ideally we can make prior arrangements for key anchorages, or provide letters of introduction to ensure misunderstandings do not develop! For many places we know the correct land owners and can advise who to make contact and any arrangement with.

Unlike other superyacht cruising destinations, the communities are very welcoming, but some villagers may see a big beautiful yacht and have raised expectations of the willingness to pay for anchoring etc. EcoSustainAbility has established and agreed relationships with many host communities and can ensure skippers have confidence in the arrangements they need to make to facilitate a visit.

Formalities

EcoSustainAbility can arrange specific customs and quarantine arrangements for yachts travelling to the Louisiades. Where the yacht will not be visiting a port of entry (such as Alotau or Samarai to the west) formalities may be undertaken in Misima.

Guides

EcoSustainAbility can provide Dimdim or local guides for the whole trip or for shorter parts of it. Services can be tailored to the yachts requirements.
