The Louisiades Islands, are a part of Milne Bay Province of Papua New Guinea, over 200 islands 120 nautical miles east of Alotau (the provincial capital on mainland PNG.

Visiting the  isolated community, it is easy to envisage little change since Bouganville ”discovered” and Stanley “mapped” the islands for European charts. The communities have obviously lived on the islands for many hundreds if not thousands of years with skull caves and other sites indicating a long history of settlement.
